My bachelor graduation project focused on designing an interactive training vest called Smarteams. It was designed for an athletic training equipment company, Smartgoals B.V.,as an extension to their existing product line.

The vest would enable team coaches to remotely switch around players during a training session based on team formation, training scenarios and physical performance. The lighting panels enable both player and coach to receive instant augmented feedback while on the pitch though lighting behaviors integrated into the panels themselves.

Sensors were added to the vest to relay players’ data in real time, and enable more intelligent processes like machine learning to increase the overall efficiency of the training session. The lighting system along with the machine learning capabilities would bring a new level of interactivity to team training sessions.

I oversaw the entire design process from start to finish, making sure to create a product that not only met the users needs but also met the business needs of the other stakeholders involved. This meant iterative prototyping, carrying out stringent user testing, bringing in experts as well as staying within Smartgoals branding and marketing strategies. The project was selected to be displayed at the Drivers of Change exhibition during the

Dutch Design Week 2019.
